Kernel Source Archive: FreeGEM-XM

GEM, the Graphics Environment Manager, was originally developed by Digital Research, Inc. (DRI), for use with CP/M on the Intel 8088 and Motorola 68000 series of microprocessors.

GEM was used, above TOS, as the built-in graphical interface on the Atari ST series of microcomputers, and a DOS version was bundled with Amstrad's PC1512 and PC1640 personal computers. Versions of GEM were included as the graphical environment for a number of applications such as Ventura (now Corel) Publisher, Artline, and GST's Timeworks Publisher. A specialised version of GEM, called ViewMAX, was released with DRI's DR-DOS operating system.

In April 1999, Caldera Thin Clients, now part of the SCO Group, released GEM under the GNU General Public License. Development of GEM has continued in the forms of FreeGEM and OpenGEM.

FreeGEM-XM 3.0beta4 is available in the Kernel Source Archive Subversion repository at /kernelsource/FreeGEM-XM.
