Kernel Source Archive: MkLinux

MkLinux was a Mach-based operating system developed to bring Linux to PowerPC-based Apple Macintosh computers. The MkLinux project was initiated by the Open Software Foundation's Research Institute, together with Apple Computer, in February 1996 and the most recent release, ‘Pre-R2’ was made in August 2002.

MkLinux is notable for, like OSF/1 and NEXTSTEP (and subsequently Mac OS X/Darwin's XNU), being based upon the Mach microkernel. MkLinux was, however, based upon a later release of OSF Mach which was based upon CMU Mach 3.0, rather than the earlier Mach 2.5 releases.

An early developer release of MkLinux, DR3, and the ‘Pre-R1’ release are available in the Kernel Source Archive Subversion repository at /kernelsource/MkLinux.
